CITB 1 day Health & Safety Awareness
This Site Safety Plus course is for you if you’re considering, or already, working within the construction and civil engineering industry.
Overview
This course highlights potential hazards when working on site and provides practical advice on keeping yourself and your colleagues safe. It covers your individual and employer’s responsibilities, including what you can do if you think anyone’s health and safety is being put at risk.
This course provides health and safety awareness and is endorsed by Build UK as standard training for all operatives on site.
At the end of the course you will have an understanding of:
- the need to prevent accidents
- health and safety law
- how your role fits into the control and management of the site
- risk assessments and method statements
- performing safely and asking for advice
- how to report unsafe acts to prevent an accident
Certification for this course is valid for 5 years. To remain certified in this area, you will need to retake the course before the expiry date

CITB Health & Safety Training
We offer construction related training courses to assist you in complying with legislation.
Training can be delivered in dedicated training rooms or at your premises and includes weekends when required.
The 1 day H&S Awareness is a popular course for those seeking an entry level into the constrcution industry and is targeted towards the green CSCS card.
CSCS cards provide proof that individuals working on construction sites have the required training and qualifications for the type of work they carry out.
CSCS is a not-for-profit limited company. Its directors are from employer organisations and unions representing the breadth of the industry. The Scheme’s application processing and contact centre is delivered under contract.
Holding a CSCS card is not a legislative requirement. It is entirely up to the principal contractor or client whether workers are required to hold a card before they are allowed on site. However, most principal contractors and major house builders require construction workers on their sites to hold a valid CSCS card.
If individuals do not hold cards they are still expected to demonstrate they have had the necassary training to undertake the tasks on site.
It is therefore imporatant that employers provide the suitable training or use the services of recognised training providers such JJH Safety Services Ltd
Site Supervision Safety Training Sceme (SSSTS)
This course is for you if you’re considering, or already have, supervisory responsibilities.
Overview
It is endorsed by Build UK as the standard training for all supervisors working on Build UK sites and provides an understanding of health, safety, welfare and environmental issues. It highlights legal responsibilities and the need to promote health and safety to supervise effectively.
At the end of the course you will have an understanding of:
- health and safety law and how it applies to supervisors
- your supervisory responsibilities in controlling site safely
- risk assessments and the need for method statements
- effective site inductions, toolbox talks and method statement briefings
- monitoring site activities effectively
- timely intervention when bad practice is identified
Certification for this course is valid for 5 years.
To remain certified in this area, you will need to take a refresher course before the expiry date on your certificate, otherwise the full course will need to be retaken.

Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS)
This course is for you if you’re considering, or already have, responsibilities for planning, organising, monitoring, controlling and administering groups of staff e.g. site manager.
Overview
It covers all relevant legislation affecting safe working in the building, construction and civil engineering industries. It highlights the need for risk assessment in the workplace, the implementation of the necessary control measures and adequate communication to sustain a health and safety culture within the workforce.
This course is endorsed by Build UK as the standard training for all construction managers.
At the end of the course you will be able to:
- implement all health, safety, welfare and environmental legislation affecting your daily workimplement new guidance and industry best practice
- state your duties and responsibilities with regards to health, safety, welfare and the environment
Certification for this course is valid for 5 years. To remain certified in this area, you will need to take a refresher course before the expiry date on your certificate, otherwise the full course will need to be retaken.

Renewing a CSCS Card?
To renew a card you need to prove you have the appropriate training and qualifications required to carry out your job. You also need to pass the Enviromental Test.
The type of work you do, your qualifications, or your membership of a body will determine which type of CSCS card you should apply for and test you need to pass
